Primary Areas of Interest
Lipoprotein composition in cancer
We identified a unique lipid and protein signature in the composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in early breast and colon cancer. This unique composition, together with other tumor-induced modifications, like oxidation of the lipoprotein, may grant the LDL particle with pro-tumorigenic qualities. We are currently studying these qualities and the mechanisms underlying them.
Lipoproteins and macrophages in cancer
We found that lipoproteins can polarize macrophages into a specific sub-population that may be invovlved in the pathogenesis of cancer. We are currently investigating this fascinating avenue of research.
Triglycerides in acute pancreatitis
High plasma levels of triglycerides are known to increase the risk of acute inflammation of the pancreas. We are investigating the molecular composition of triglycerides and how this composition can contribute to the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis.
